Maureen O'Hara

Biography

Maureen O'Hara, born Maureen FitzSimons in 1920, was an Irish-American film actress and singer.

She trained with the Abbey Theatre and went on to be given a screen test in London, which brought her to the attention of Charles Laughton and Erich Pommer who offered her a seven-year contract with their new company, Mayflower Pictures. Her first major screen role was as Mary Yellen in Jamaica Inn (1939).

Following the death of Nova Pilbeam in July 2015, she was the last known surviving collaborator from Hitchcock's British period.

She died on 24 October 2015, aged 95.
