Helen G. Scott was born in New York, but was raised in Paris where her father was a correspondent for The Associated Press.
During World War II, she was broadcaster for the Free French from Brazzaville, in the Congo. For her wartime work and her role in French film making, the government awarded her the La France Libre Medal in 1965.
From 1959 to 1965, she was the director of public relations for the French Film Office in the United States.
In 1962 she acted as the translator between Alfred Hitchcock and Francois Truffaut during the famous taped interviews.
In 1986, she was named Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres.
