Introduction
"The Foghorn" was originally broadcast on 16/Mar/1958 as part of the third season of Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
Synopsis
Lucia is in bed in a place that is apparently a hospital. She tries to remember how she ended up there, and then a flashback begins. Lucia had met and fallen in love with Allen at a party to celebrate her engagement to another man. She decides to break off her engagement. Lucia later discovers that Allen is married but continues to meet him after he tells her he will get a divorce. Things go wrong when Allen admits his wife will not consent to the divorce. He and Lucia go for a ride in a sailboat to discuss their plans. They are subsequently lost in the fog and then their boat is hit by a freighter.
Lucia then gets up from her bed, then recoils in horror at seeing her hands so wrinkled. Turns out she survived the accident but Allen was killed, and that she has been in a mental ward for decades. Her doctor comes to take care of her, but finds her dead body in her room.
