Kids' gory stories are just for effect
Re, your article, Kids' passion for violence disturbs Metro educators (April 20). When I read that article, it really cracked me up to hear how worried the teachers are about these horror stories.
I know from experience that all that gory writing is just to gross the teachers out. When I was in Grade 6, I used to write the same sort of stuff to get the teacher upset and the more she freaked, the more I wrote to make the reaction even better. But in Grade 7, the teacher did not react so I started writing more serious compositions.
I would like to add that the spelling stinks in these kids' compositions. The teachers should be more concerned about the grammar and spelling and the imagination in the stories than the fact that they are gross.
No need to worry, teacher, there is a chance that these kids may be the Stephen King or Alfred Hitchcock of the future.
